First Dry Day in Jackson Hole

After a day and a half of rain in the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole, we were glad to see the sun for more than thirty minutes.   We decided to drive to the top of Teton Pass; we were told not to take the RV -- "the graveyard of RV's" according to the campground host.  Apparently true:  yesterday our neighbor was unloading his fifth wheel into a Budget box truck to drive back to Buffalo, NY.  He had blown the Duramax engine in his '05 Chev coming over Teton Pass.  He came into town on two towtrucks and then sold truck and RV here locally.  Bad way to end a vacation.

The road up to the Teton Pass has a 10% grade for several miles to the top elevation 8430 ft.  Lots of snow and avalanche warning signs.  While there, a young fellow with his snowboard strapped to his back started hiking up the ridge to the north side of the pass -- awful lot of work for one ride.   A party of three hearty souls pulled in and were getting their boards and gear together and looking at the south ridge.

We returned from Teton Pass and took the Teton - Moose Road north into the Grand Tetons National Park.  Passed the Teton Village ski area into a nice forested area with trails leading west into the canyons and mountains.  We weren't motivated to hike that much.

Arrived at Moose where the scenic loop road connects to the main north south highway (US 89) and decided to cut our drive short.  We checked out the Visitors Center which was very nice with a lot of information and displays, and then headed back to Jackson to complete some errands (groceries, laundry, wash the RV, etc)

We're in the Virginian Resort and RV Park and it's one of the nicest we've visited.  They even have a paved area with a hose bib where you can wash your RV -- first time I've seen that.  There's a large motel with a restaurant, bar, and an interior courtyard with a pool on the property.  They are having a large car show here this weekend so Kyle and I walked up and checked out the vehicles.  I was surprised at the quality of the entries and the number of states represented.

One disappointment we've had has been the quality of the internet service at the RV Parks.  The best parks do not compare with internet service at home.  The connections suffer frequent drops, variable WiFi signal strength, and extremely slow loading.

Saturday we're headed to Idaho Falls and the Craters of the Moon National Monument.  Early next week we should be on I-15 South to Moab, Utah and the canyon country.
